DIABETES - CHARITY GOLF DAY 

Windy says this is a plea from the heart after being recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (Christmas Eve 2013) . . . . . . . . . . 

And before anyone has a go at me, yes I know there are 1000's and 1000's of other diabetics out there a million times worse than me, but this is about me not them, and it's about what I want to do. But all the money I raise will go to help them as well !!

So here's my story then - By no means was it life threatening for me, however it was life changing that's for sure, particularly with regards to my lifestyle - especially my diet and exercise, and the numerous doctors / hospital appointments, blood tests and other stuff.

And for those of you who know me personally, diet and exercise are foreign words to me, and used to consist of seeing how many pints I could guzzle down in the pub, then run down to the Indian's or Chinese before it closed . . . . . but not now !!

Nobody knows for sure what caused my diabetes but I'm assuming being 16 stone 3 pounds at my heaviest, surviving on beer and takeaways when I was younger, and partying very very hard, didn't help eh ha ha ha. I'm now a healthy 14 stone 5 pounds though, with a target weight of 13 stone 10 pounds . . . . . . . and my diet now largely consists of - Low Sugar, Low Salt and Low Fat foods, with the occasional treat. I also need to keep an eye on my Carbs as well, because unlike you. If I eat anything high in Carbs especially refined Carbs my blood sugar levels will go through the roof. 

Anyway without fear of boring you all to death, and to cut a very very long story short. As a lot of my followers are also keen golfers, I decided to organise a CHARITY golf day with the help of a good friend - Jake Riddell and Auchterarder Golf Club, which is being held on Saturday 13th Sept. 2014 (I was hoping for the 27th but apparently there's something on up at Gleneagles that weekend)

I now have approximately 120 odd golfers re-confirmed, with space for 144 golfers in total. And a further 50 for dinner at night. So it's going to be an amazing day regardless !!!

I'm trying to raise about £12-15 thousand pounds for CHARITY, so I need more sponsors / donations or pledges please. I've already raised about £7,500 so far which is absolutely fantastic, but need a lot more to reach my target !!!

70% of all monies raised are going to Diabetes UK Scotland with 15% also going to the SCOTTISH CHARITY AIR AMBULANCE which flies out of Perth, and the other 15% going to my local Beavers, Cubs and Scouts group here in Auchterarder (54th Perthshire), which will benefit about 150 kids !!!

I've still got business / sponsorship opportunities left, with the old faithful TEE'S and GREEN'S proving to be very popular, however there's still a few of these left to sponsor if you're interested. As well as other sponsorship packages available.

I'm hoping Danscot Perth are going to provide an official match day programme, so a big shout out to Juila Rayner and everyone at Danscot - ALL sponsors will be included in the programme which will also double up as a mini BUSINESS DIRECTORY !!!

There's loads of wonderful prizes / cash / Tombola stuff to be won on the day, and Arnold Clark Nissan Perth have kindly donated a BRAND NEW CAR for one of the "hole in one" prizes . . . . . as well as holidays to Portugal and England to be won !!

Pipe Band as well, with food and drink on throughout the day for any visitors, family or friends that want to come along and support the event vocally !!

My 8 year old son, affectionately known as "wee Windy" will be hitting the first ball and opening the event at about 7.20am . . . . . . .  

Evening meal / prize giving and disco as well. So it's going to be a fantastic day all round hopefully.
