Hi!
Thanks for coming to look at my Sponsorship Page! I've signed up today (05/02/15) to complete a Lands End to John O'Groats cycle challenge, which starts on the 1st of September, it will take 13 days to complete, consist of over 1000 miles on my bike, cross through 3 countries, and climb approximately 4500 feet.
After completing my first ever triathlon 6 months ago, (after only training for 72 days!!) I pretty much stopped training, went back to enjoying a few too many McDonalds, and returning to lazy ways. I now have 29 weeks and 5 days to get ready for this challenge! I'm sure it's going to be a lot harder than I expect, with a lot of hours needed on my bike to get myself ready on top of my already demanding job working sometimes in excess of 50 hours a week.
I am aiming to raise £3000 for the Charity Endometriosis UK, and why this charity I hear some of you ask? Well as some of our friends and family know, Amy, my Fiancee sufferers severely from endometriosis. Amy was finally diagnosed with the condition in the beginning part of 2012, despite many years of pain and multiple wrong diagnoses.
Amy has now had two surgeries, many investigations and takes a staggering 23 pills a day. She has had to put her loved career as a nurse on hold for the time being as her symptoms have worsened and she can no longer take part in so many of the activities we used to enjoy together. Amy lives with constant debilitating pain that is 'controlled' as best as possible with the aid of high strength pain killers. But, as all endo sufferers know nothing truly gets rid of the pain.
So what is endometriosis?
The NHS simply describes endometriosis as a condition where tissue that behaves like the lining of the womb is found outside the womb.
Ask any woman living with the condition and you will be told of so many ways it affects their lives, relationships and everything that encompasses them. The definition truly does the condition no justice what so ever.
It is a long term condition that cause painful, heavy periods, pain in the abdomen, pelvis and back (to name a few), as well as fertility problems. It may contribute towards lack of energy, fatigue and depression. This short list of symptoms nowhere nears tells all of the problems associated with endo.
- 1 in 10 women suffer from endometriosis in the UK.
- 10% of women WORLDWIDE have endometriosis that is approximately 176 Million!
- Endometriosis is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK.
- The same amount of women are affected in the UK by endometriosis, as by diabetes.
- On average it takes 7.5 years from the onset of symptoms, before the condition is correctly diagnosed.
I will be 'vlogging' as my training goes on, so please give head over to youtube (link to be added) and have a look. Feel free to share any tips / hints that you might have!
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to keeping you up to date with everything.
