BUPA Great Manchester Run 2012 · 20 May 2012 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Woohoo, its finally up and running and so am I!!
I was diagnosed with myeloma in December 2010 on Christmas Eve to be exact! Myeloma is cancer of the bone marrow. It is fairly rare affecting about 4000 people a year in the UK. It is treatable but not curable at present. Life expectancy is improving and longer periods of remission are being obtained through new treatments discovered through research and Myeloma UK is the only charity in the UK specifically dealing with Myeloma and raises funds for research, education and patient information. I have found Myeloma UK to be of great benefit to me and your support will enable Myeloma UK to continue be a lifeline to people like me with Myeloma. Having had a stem cell transplant on 1 September 2011 I am now enjoying a period of remission. I dont know how long it will last but whilst I am feeling well I want to do this run as a personal challenge. I will be huffing and puffing alot as my fitness level isnt what it was pre myeloma but so what if I get round that will be an achievement. Lots of people who havent got cancer take on physical challenges to raise money for cancer charities which is great but I want to raise money by taking on this challenge as a person living with myeloma
