Story
Due to covid London Marathon was postponed till April 2023…
So the House is coming to Oxford to do the Half marathon. I’m actually super excited by being able to run at the Hospices home city…
…….
Not another marathon I hear you say. But it’s not just another marathon it’s the London marathon and I'll be dressed as a house.
I’ve dreamed of running London for years even before I could run. I recall watching it from my sick bed and thinking wow how amazing but I’ll never be well enough. When I ran Edinburgh Marathon I cried because I couldn’t believe I could finally do that distance. I’ve entered the ballot for over 10 years: and I’ve considered a charity place but it needed be somewhere I could really relate to.
A long time ago I helped a young boy with brain damage take part in lots of activities at cubs including a camp. He unfortunately passed away in hospital. His dad said he always had a photo of me and him from camp on his bedside, being there to allow him to take part in everything in our own way, listening to him sing me Meat Loaf songs and joking about farting power from the baked beans he ate that morning when he fell over to stop him crying still lives with me. He didn’t have a hospice then, to know there’s this kind of place that could have helped towards the end makes me want to help.
So no matter how small please donate to help other children and their family have a better quality of life.
