Story

In the summer of 2006, 34 architecture students from 4 different universities traveled to Romania to start construction of a childrens' education centre in the village of Tarlungeni. The volunteers came from nearly every level of studies- those who already had construction experience helped those who did not. Together we learnt how to tackle the challenge of realising our designs, gaining skills from local craftsmen along the way. This summer we will be returning to site to complete the building. While vD&B provides a free design and construction service there are still many costs which need to be met and we need to raise a further £12,000 for the project. As part of this cycled solo 110 miles in one day (in 7 hours 48 mins) without any doping! I'm  hoping to raise £1,100 or £10 a mile, expensive yes but have you ever caught a taxi in london? Im looking forward to returning to site in october, you can find out how the ride went here.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Voluntary Design & Build will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support Dom.

About the charity

vD&B endeavours to produce architecture for clients who might not otherwise be able to afford building work. By encouraging the design skills of young architects as well as their willingness to work, our aim is to produce buildings that are not just the bare-minimum: buildings that are architecturally stimulating as well as sustainable, both for the environment and the communities they support.
