Story
Hello from 'Marathon Man UK' Rob Young, and from Adam Holland: thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Moved and inspired by our brothers and sisters the athletes of Kenya, who launched the Champions Walk for Peace in July to raise funds for peace-building to end the ethnic violence which is destroying lives and communities in Kenya's North Rift Valley, we have committed to relay the Torch for Humanity, which they carried across the Rift. We will carry it 1900 miles around the UK, through over 400 villages, towns and cities, in 25 days.
We look forward to receiving the torch from Kenyan athletes at the Great North Run in Newcastle on 13 September. Together we will then carry it - one running with the torch, the other accompanying by bicycle, switching as needed - more than 75 miles a day for 25 days, climbing over 75,000 feet during the relay.
In every town we visit we will slow to a walk for a mile with the torch, and we'd love you to join us as well as sponsoring us (find out more at www.walkforpeace.co.ke).
Finishing in London, on 8th October we will hand the torch back to a Kenyan athlete going to the Chicago Marathon, where the relay will begin its US leg.
We are immensely proud of everyone taking part in the Champions Walk for Peace. Their love and strength to bring peace is remarkable and we can only do our part by taking the torch and carrying it with our nation in true ultra fashion. We call on people all around the World not only to sponsor us, but also to join us. Please show your support to end the violence and save lives in northern Kenya. One Love.
