Tynedale Link - Chernobyl Children's lifeline · 13 January 2008

Chernobyl Children's Lifeline has rebranded as CCLL - The Helping Hand for Ukraine and we prioritize help for children and their families in the northern areas of the country who are suffering from the ongoing conflict. We carry out our work without any political affiliation or bias.

Story

Last year the Tyne Valley Link organised with the Chernobyl children's lifeline charity for a group of children to visit the UK. This proved to be just the tonic for them as their lives have been blighted by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The picture to the left is the group of children with their translator at Beamish museum.

Whilst they were here they took part in an action-packed programme of events. They enjoyed: horse riding, canoeing , cycling, swimming, visiting local museums and not so popular a visit to the Dentist!

It is estimated the month-long visit to the district will add at least two years to the children’s 30-year life expectancy, thanks to the respite from the background radiation levels that still affect their country.

A group of us are doing a sponsored walk along Hadrian's Wall from Walltown to Steel Rigg, 5 miles.
