Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in the memory of the unforgettable Ian Wooldridge.
I just want to let you all know that WE DID IT!!! we all completed our runs, and we ran with pride for my lovely man. Take a look at the new photos of us all.
Here is our story......
This site is dedicated to the memory of our amazing wonderful devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle - Ian Wooldridge – who touched so many lives with his warmth, wisdom, generosity and friendship. He was true gentleman and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
On October the 23rd 2010, the Mourne Mountain Rescue team were the first people on the scene of a helicopter crash at Shanlieve Mountain, in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. The crash tragically claimed the lives of three good people - Ian Wooldridge, his friend Charlie Stisted, and their pilot; AJ Smith.
We have all been completely devastated by this tragic accident, and are extremely grateful for the swift and respectful manner in which the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team dealt with the scene and stayed and secured it overnight in high winds and temperatures plummeting to as low as -15 degrees centigrade, until the police were able to attend. The MMRT are a voluntary organisation who turn out in all weathers, day or night, 365 days a year with a common purpose – to help anyone who is in trouble on the hills.
In recognition of their actions and as a “Thank you”, myself (Thandi) and my sister-in-law; Julie Thomas registered to run the Belfast marathon (26.2 miles), on 2nd May 2011, and raise funds for them. Also running with us were Anna Gripenstedt and Winston Matthews.
Rhett; Ian’s 6 year old son, also wanted to do something for Daddy, so he also registered to run the 3 mile “Fun Run” in Belfast on the same day. His cousins Sophie, ChaCha, Daisy and Tatty ran alongside him.
Thank you all so much for your generous support and donations for our run. Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories.
Rest In Peace Ian – we Love you and miss you so very much xxx
