Hearts and Heroes Challenge · 16 May 2009 ·

The Sportsman's Charity, which has distributed nearly £2.5m since 1983, raises money through events for projects involving disabled sport, youth and social inclusion. Its distributions are made to other, smaller charitable organisations working in these fields.

Story

                                                        WE DID IT!!

Thankfully we all completed the Challenge - the boys crossed the finishing line in 9hs 40mins and the girls after 11hrs 45mins(they decided to take full advantage of panoramic views, food stops and massage services along the way!) A great day was had by all although it tested everybody to the limits. Lots of blisters and general aches to show for it!

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family and people we have harassed for sponsorship!! The last push is on to reach our target. Be rest assured that ANY size of donation is gratefully received. Thank you.

As the main sponsor of Peebles 1st XV rugby team and the fact that Moira was Head O.T. at Edenhall Spinal Unit in Musselburgh, Andy decided to put together a team to raise money for the Hearts and Heroes charity challenge.

David is the Sponsorship Manager for the Peebles Rugby Team, past player and keen supporter. Fendath has 4 sons and a daughter who all play the game and is well aware of the dangers involved. Mark has 3 young sons who are involved  with Selkirk Rugby Club.  Dan, from New Zealand plays for Peebles. The  team (apart from Dan!) can be safely regarded as "non-athletes" so this will be a challenge!!  Hopefully camaraderie and determination will get us to our final destination!!

Spinal injury is devastating to both patient, family and friends and we are delighted to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause.

The walk covers 29 miles of the Southern Upland way and is split into 3 sections. Competitors can opt to walk 11, 21 or the full 29 miles to be completed within 12 hours. The men are aiming for 29 miles and Linda,Moira and Fendath will take each stage as it comes along -  but hope to make it to the end!
