Story
On April 20th 2014 my 2 year old God Son, Max McKeown, was diagnosed
with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. His diagnosis was out of the blue, but
thankfully his response to the initial treatments was so good that it
took even the doctors by surprise. However, he has a long 3 year
treatment programme ahead of him to cure him of the cancer.
The support and care he has received and continues to receive on
his ward is amazing. I want to be able to do my own bit to support Max,
until now that has pretty much consisted of praying, hospital visits
and the occasional babysitting of his big sister. So to acknowledge and
support the wonderful work on ward 4 and 14 at the Great North Children's
Hospital and to the pay homage to Max's fight I wanted to do something
to raise funds for his wards and challenge myself to the max for Max...
So on April 25th 2015, to mark the first year of his fight and to keep
his ongoing treatment fresh in everyone’s thoughts and prayers, I will be
doing an Olympic distance triathlon for Max, swimming 1500m, cycling
40km and running 10km.
This challenge will be hard and will
keep me focused on the fight Max has done so far and the fight he still
has in front of him, I want my blood sweat and, no doubt, tears to count
and as such I aim to raise £2000 in sponsorship.
Swim approx. 1 mile (1500meters / 60 lengths) in 40 minutes
Bike approx. 25m mile (40km) in 1hr 30 minutes
Run approx. 7 m (10km) in 1 hr
A Triathalon for Max, pushing myself to the max.
