The Department of Neonatology is based at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton and the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Haywards Heath. We provide medical and surgical care for babies in Brighton and Hove, Mid Sussex and across the whole of Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
TMBU is a regional intensive care unit for newborn babies and the only one of its type in Sussex. It is also a regional surgical centre for newborn babies and the only one of its type in Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
We have 27 cots on TMBU, of which 17 are specially designated for intensive and high dependency care. In 2012 there were 560 admissions to TMBU, with over 275 babies requiring intensive care, 120 babies weighing less than 1500g at birth were admitted and of these 60 were more than three months premature. More than one in five of all admissions are babies born in hospitals outside Brighton.
We have 8 cots at the Special Care Baby Unit at Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. In 2012 over 250 babies were admitted to SCBU for special care, of whom many also received intensive care on TMBU.
We continue to rely on charitable donations to help us equip our units and train our staff to the highest standard. We also rely on charitable donations to improve the environment and experience of parents and families who have to spend so much time with us while their babies need our care.
We really appreciate your help. Thankyou so much.
