Story
We're riding the "Tour 'o the borders" on a tandem. We've never ridden a tandem before and I haven't ridden in 18 months........In 2013 I had a serious accident leaving me with a bleed on the brain, a central spinal cord contusion at the cervical level, and I completely destroyed all 5 main trunks of my Brachial Plexus leaving me with a paralysed right arm and surrounding muscles.
However I was extremely fortunate. I have learnt to walk and even run again in a very short space of time whereas others who damage their Spinal Cord currently can't look forward to that day. Many of you will understand how debilitating an SCI can be based on visual reference but there are many more acute bodily problems that an SCI injury sufferer has to contend with. As we go faster, harder and further as sportsmen, SCI injuries will increase. They can happen to anyone.
We simply have to find a cure for Spinal Cord, and Peripheral Nervous system injuries.
With this in mind, myself and paul smail will be tackling the Tour of the Borders, an 80 mile sportive. On a tandem. This will be my first serious bike ride in around 18 months.
