In the footsteps of Hannibal - walking the Alps in memory of Tom
Six of the Panzer legs (Gottfrieds, Christians and mine) will be walking 6-8 hours a day, across the Alps from southern Germany, through Austria and into northern Italy (a mere c.125k but laced with challenging ascents and descents!).
We've done a few madcap things before but not felt that they involved inflicting sufficient pain to trouble people to part with money. Always a tricky one trying to determine who should receive your cash.
Tom was an apparently 'fit and healthy' life embracing boy of 14 years old who died suddenly, shockingly and unexpectedly. His undiagnosed heart condition was fatal.
Every week 12 young people die from an undetected heart condition. Something as simple as 'screening' can make the difference between the sharing of life and the loss of life.
The charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) can help make that difference. We're aiming to raise awareness and funds for CRY in memory of that cheeky, funny, loveable Tom.
Donations will go to the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund, administered by CRY. Any money raised will also help provide further screenings in west London. You can read about the screenings that the Fund supported in 2009 - and learn more about Tom's story - by following the link below:
