Each year, members of Tomkins staff take part in The London to Paris Triathlon and raise money for the Aplastic Anaemia Trust. Each participant raises individual sponsorship from family and friends as well as asking their colleagues at Tomkins for donations. However, this year the team is so large that we have decided to pool resources and ask collectively:
Please will you sponsor us??
In case you don't know what's involved, here's what Brian S, Chris K, David B, Jade, Jo, Katrina, Malcolm, Matt, Mila, Nick, Philip and Zee will be doing on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 June:
1) 1km swim in the Serpentine
2) 10km run around the Serpentine
3) 100km cycle ride in the outskirts of Paris
Whether you've done this event in previous years or are taking part for the first time, the triathlon is hard work and requires a lot of training. We all dread swimming in the "Turpentine" as we fondly call it, and the run and bike ride are certainly no picnic either. As well as enjoying the physical challenge, there is of course a more serious reason for taking part: The Aplastic Anaemia Trust.
The AAT raises money for people who suffer from this bone marrow disease, a disease as common as the commonest types of leukaemia and just as deadly. However as it is neither a leukaemia or a cancer it does not attract support from major charities. The AAT is the only charity devoted and committed to raising money for the treatment and research of this disease. The fact that Tomkins is entering it's biggest team in 17 years is good news for the AAT as the haematology unit at St George's Hospital (the base of the AAT) has had a reduction in funding from the Government in the past year.
PLEASE HELP US TO RAISE MORE MONEY THAN EVER FOR THE APLASTIC ANAEMIA TRUST!
