We train local people to be builders to build schools and clinics in Zambia.

Story

I have been given the fantastic opportunity to take part in a 10 day visit to Zambia where Project Two - Kabaka Community School is taking place.

In May 2014, I will be visiting the local community in Zambia where, through the BGL Group and Build It International, we are building a new school with three classrooms, a new sanitation facility and a house for teachers.

The current school uses an empty health clinic and makeshift classrooms of sticks and grass. There are 258 pupils, 171 girls and 87 boys, on the school register. We will be changing this into a comfortable, safe and secure building where the children can continue to learn and develop basic skills such as literacy and numeracy. The new building will also benefit the wider community and when solar lighting is installed, the building will allow for many other uses such as; adult literacy classes, evening homework clubs, church meetings and after school clubs such as choir and drama.

These families live on less than 80p a day - that's nearly the same cost of a chocolate bar. By building a new community school, it will bring a safer, securer and brighter future for the Zambian people.

I will be visiting the new community school next year to not only see the final result, but to live in their community and interact, teach and learn from the children that we have greatly helped

I will be extremely grateful for any amount that you could donate, no matter how big or small, it will all help towards this fantastic project, building a brighter future for the Zambian community.
