Story
Hair today
Tina, who moved to England in 2004, has set up a dual pronged campaign. Not only will she shave her head completely bald if she can achieve her goal of raising £5000 for brainstrust, but she will also auction her luxurious black locks after it has been shorn.
Sponsored Shear
The 28 year old has been inspired to undergo a sponsored shear after hearing the story of local teenager Meg Jones, who was diagnosed with a critically sited malignant brain tumour in 2004.
Located in ‘tiger country,’ slang for a part of the brain which prohibits removal by conventional surgery, the greatest chance of successfully removing Meg’s tumour is by using a revolutionary intra-operative MRI scanning – a treatment available in Boston, in the United States.
To help raise the £50,000 needed to send Meg abroad, the registered charity brainstrust has been set up. Meg’s goal, happily, has been reached - and she will undergo surgery in the summer of 2007. Now, brainstrust helps all of those with critically sited malignant brain tumours, raising funds to advance the treatment of patients and raising money to open a life saving intra-operative MRI scanning centre in the United Kingdom.
Tina’s reason for starting this auction was do to something out of the ordinary to inspire people to help brainstrust achieve its goal. Visit www.justgiving.com/tinahair and you will be able to donate money towards the shearing of Tina’s gorgeous locks. The hair itself will be auctioned to make a wig or extensions for a cancer victim.
