Hello all and thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
In August we will be attemping a solo swim of the English Channel, a challenge that only 815 people have achieved since 1875. Alongside me, acting as the vital support swimmer will be my brother Nick aka 'The Thorpedo'.
This epic challenge has always been an ambition of ours and after a successful relay swim in September 2007 we have decided to take the plunge , dust down the speedos and go for the big one!
Some interesting channel facts:
- The narrowest point between England and France is 21 miles.
- The water temperature is around '16' degrees centrigrade (yep, it's cold).
- We will have to battle against tides, sewage, jellyfish, hypothermia and make our way through the busiest shipping lane in the world in order to get to France.
- It takes anything between 10 and 20 hours to swim across.
- We can only eat food that has been passed to us on a stick!
- We will be swimming up to 80km per week up to the actual swim.
So this is not an easy challenge which is why we think we can raise £5,000 with the support of our friends, family and businesses who I hope will sponsor me generously. The opportunity of raising some cash and help to save thousands of lives can only be a good thing.
Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support, it makes it all worthwhile.
Tim and Nick
