The challenge: Please take 2 minutes to read this quick note from Tim Cox and his brother-in-law Sean Gladwell, who would like to extract some of your hard earned cash to help MacMillian Cancer Support, through a rather stupid challenge they have let themselves into...
Finally after 3 years of trying, we were accepted onto one of the daftest motor challenges on earth... basically it's like the 'cancelled' Paris-Dakar rally on the cheap !
On the 28th December 07 our Challenge was to drive the route (give or take 7,200KM in 17 days, not the 22 days we originally estimated ) the drive was made in 'Madge', a 20yr old left hand drive Merc190E with 290,000'ish KM on the clock from Plymouth (last minute change to Portsmouth) overland and sea to Banjul (The Gambia) where the car is to be auctioned helping some children's and sports focused charitable causes in Senegal and The Gambia.
The challenge was totally unsupported... no backup, no medics, no mechanics, no rescue etc... just 2 idiots in a banger, missing New Year, with no mechanical skills between them, bumbling through 8 countries, a series of deserts, non existant roads and dodgy boarders...
If we've caught your interest and you want to support us please dig deep...
If you want to know more of the challenge visit: http://www.plymouth-banjul.co.uk/ and then click on 'field reports' then look for 'Group07' or you can look on the left under Group07 and look up Team ‘CYASOON T8713. We updated the site daily’ish with our progress via text directly into the site throughout the journey, so if you’ve nothing better to do, you can take a peek at what we got up to…
'Madge' generated £ 1,262.56 for charity when auctioned in Banjul... so a massive thank you for all those who supported us and MacMillan Cancer Support by donating through this site which is simple, fast and totally secure.
One more thing, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
We may be back but are more than happy to keep taking your donations... So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
Tim & Sean (Team CYASOON - T8713)
