Skydive 2010 - Jumping for Crew

As part of our fundraising strategy 9 staff from the Crew Club & Varndean College will be attending SkyDive Zone Ltd and jumping out of an aeroplane from 12,000ft then free-falling at 120mph to 5,000ft. The jump will take place on Saturday 24th July 2010 & Saturday 11th September 2010.

We need your support, so please dig deep and donate now.

The Manager

I believe that all young people need somewhere to go which supports their developmental needs and complements their education. This may be their school, home or the local youth centre. Over the last ten years, the Crew Club has built up a thriving safe youth work environment, with trusted staff, for young people aged 7 to 16 years, an accredited education programme for 16 to 19 year olds and holiday programmes for young people with special needs and disabilities.

I believe the opportunity for young people to meet their full potential comes from both formal and informal learning experiences.

The club’s youth work prides itself on providing a fun and safe environment for young people to meet friends and develop their self-confidence, esteem and identity. Parents and carers are fundamental to this process, so we also provide a platform to engage with the parents and carers of our young people through the projects we run and through volunteering opportunities.

As we all know, there are many challenges facing young people today and, for some, engaging with their education is at the top of the list. The Crew Club’s aim, under my leadership, is to provide a flexible friendly learning environment to deliver high quality accredited learning programmes so that those young people can re-engage with their education and give themselves the best chance for their future.

The Crew Club is fully committed to its aims, but we can’t do it on our own. We are fortunate in that we have built up very strong partnerships with some of the best organisations, schools and projects in the area that are also fully committed to the development and education of children and young people.

In today’s financial climate, it will be a challenge to sustain the work of the Crew Club but, with the support from the children and young people, parents and carers, volunteers, strong partnerships, your support through fundraising and our passion to take the project forward into the next ten years, I believe we have a great chance.
