Welcome to the JustGiving page for the Big Swim – a mass splash from Tenby to Caldey Island taking place on the weekend of September 2-4. The target date is Saturday, so fingers crossed that the sea is perfect! What started as an idea to have a bit of fun with the more foolhardy members of my company and to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, has developed somewhat and we now have about 20 swimmers signed up and a growing flotilla of support boats.

If you've arrived on this page through my blog www.dogintheoven@wordpress.com, then you will already know my motivation for raising money for the Alzheimer's Society. For those of you who have arrived through other means, my mother has the disease and after knowing very little about it, I now understand that much more research is needed into a possible cure and the society needs as much money as it can get to continue with the wonderful work it does helping those with the disease as well as those caring.

The swim itself is close to three miles across open water and will take most of us about two hours. It's tough, but we have been training hard thanks to help from the David Lloyd fitness club in Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol. Thank you Neil!

I will keep this page updated with news of developments but leave this now with a simple plea – please give generously (or anything you want) and help us reach a massive total!! The £2,000 target I have on here is what i hope to raise personally – so with everyone doing a similar amount we may just get a decent wedge of cash!
