Story

Summary

Three months of heavy rains have caused the worst flooding in Thailand for 50 years. Although international focus has been on the city of Bangkok, a total of 63 of Thailand’s 77 provinces have been affected by the floods, many of which are still underwater. Supply chains have been disrupted, buildings destroyed and infrastructure damaged, and there are fears that some areas will remain inundated well into December.

Background

Millions of Thais have been affected by the floods; many have been forced from their homes or have lost their livelihoods and the education of tens of thousands of children is under threat. When the waters finally recede, people will return to their homes and communities, where they will face a long, slow rebuilding process.  They will need a great deal of assistance in order to re-establish a sense of normalcy.

Project aims

Working with local groups and organisations, we aim to provide support for recovery projects throughout the affected areas which will help to rebuild devastated communities, helping people to get back on their feet and on with their lives.

Long-term sustainability

Providing people with fast, practical assistance will minimise the lasting physical and emotional effects of the disaster; enabling them to take back control of their lives.
