About Team Si

For the London 100 cycling challenge, Team Si is made up of Matty, Kati & Gary. We are a trio of novices, all over 30 and before taking on this challenge none of us had really riden much further than the local shops, Gary has previously done a bit of cycling, but that was a good 100 years ago so doesnt really count. Matty used to cycle round to the local shop if there was a bike lying around. And Kati until 2 weeks ago has never actually owned a bike or got on one since the age of 6.

So why? ........

I guess our reasons for taking up this challenge are simple. There is no reason not to! We are youngish, healthy and hopefully over the next five months of evil training, fit. Having lost our brother Simon 15 months ago, we as a family have struggled every day with the pain and gut wrenching agony that thhe loss of someone so special and dear to us has created. Simon suffered with epilepsy for most of his adult life and there were times when we thought it and the cruel impact it had on his life would beat him. He proved us wrong, his resilience, and strength made him turn his life around. In the last two years Somon transformed his himself, taking up Jujitsu, running and cycling propelled him to change his life. He lostweight, moved home and finally established himself as the man he wanted to be. Watching him fight for the easy life we all took for granted made us so proud and it was so cruel he only had it for a short time before he was snatched away. It will never be ok that Simon is not here, and the pain and the hole in our hearts will never go, but training for something he would have loved feels like he is a little closer. Raising money and awareness for what can be a cruel and destructive illness, hoping that every pound raised will push forward in finding a cure and helping young sufferers like Simon lead a normal life.

Simon will always be with us, laughing at the mess we are making as we attempt to do what we know he would have achieved with ease if only he had a chance.
