Update - 24th June
We did it! Huge thanks to everyone who took part, and to everyone who has donated to the cause. We are delighted and humbled by people's generosity with their time and their money. We had the most beautiful day for the Commute - see 'Everyone Else's Page' for some pictures!
Peter's Commute
Six miles before morning registration! A group of sixth formers and teachers from Sheffield High School completed a six mile walk on Friday 24th June, starting at 6am and finishing at the school in time to begin a full day’s work.
Inspired by the story of Peter Msongelwa, an A level student in rural Zimbabwe who used to walk 15 miles to school each day, the group are raising money for the charity Makomborero, which is doing amazing work to help to young people in similar positions. If Peter can walk 15 miles before completing a day’s schooling, then walk 15 miles back home, we ought to be able to manage 6 miles in the morning before school.
Yes, it was the earliest these sixth formers have got out of bed in a long time!!
Makomborero is a small UK based Charity set up by Mark and Laura Albertyn to relieve poverty and advance education in their native Zimbabwe. Money raised by Peter’s Commute is going directly to fund scholarships for A level students from some of the most deprived areas of the country. None of these 15 students (pictured) would be able to study for A levels without the scholarship programme run by Makomborero.
