From April 14th and December 1st this year, I will be competing in 8 cycle sportive events around the UK. This means 1 event each month and a over 400 miles of cycling - including some pretty daunting hills. My aim is to raise money for two charities that are very close to my heart, and that I have personal experience with;
PAPAA - The Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Alliance is a UK registered charity dedicated to providing a positive approach for people affected by psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
In August 2012 I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, which is a chronic, degenerative disease with no known cure. However with the help of new drugs and a healthy lifestyle it is possible to put the disease into remission for extended periods of time. I’m one of the lucky ones and have responded well to treatment but others are less fortunate and it can have dramatic, even devastating, effect on the sufferers life. I have no intention of letting this get the better of me and have decided to use my diagnosis as the impetus to try and make a small difference for those who have a daily struggle with this condition.
Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal
My daughter was born with a bilateral cleft and palate but has just successfully had her final operation at Salisbury. The staff in Salisbury were truly amazing throughout her care. The Stars appeal helps a wide range of people but does focus on children and babies. Having spent quite a long time on the children’s ward, I can say that it only takes a few minutes to see how truly remarkable and resilient children are, and how special the people who dedicate their lives to helping them are. I have given previous private donations but would like to give more.
