Us vs 1000km. Together we can.
On Saturday August 17th 2013 our community will join together to travel a total of 1000km on Well Street Common, using a 1km route, some imagination and a lot of Hackney energy.
Come and be part of taking Well Street Common by storm with The Hackney1000, and help us showcase everything that makes our borough unlike anywhere else in the UK: a local community making a difference together.
Participation Join in strolling 1km, or running 20k. The Hackney1000 allows everyone in the community the chance to get involved, and to be creative with how they do it. It offers the socially diverse and sometimes divided community of Hackney the chance to come together and share the joy of sport and activity, while raising money for Hackney Quest.
A true Olympic legacy Learn a new sport with “How to” classes from Hackney's sports clubs, and enjoy a Zumba class taught by the young people of Hackney Quest.
Something for everyone There will be music, arts and dancing. If you'd like to get involved there will be classes and taster sessions. If you'd rather just watch some of your brilliant and vibrant neighbours doing their thing, there'll be performances from a host of local groups. And you can indulge your taste buds after working hard, with food from local people and restaurants.
What is Hackney Quest?
Hackney Quest plays a key role in the Hackney community by providing support and help to young people and their families. Against a background of social and economic disadvantage, we aim to give the young people of Hackney a positive outlook on life and the world in general.
For 25 years, Hackney Quest has provided stimulating, educational and diversional activities to thousands of young people, diverting them away from anti-social behaviour, promoting their personal development and breaking down barriers. The charity also works with families, helping to strengthen homes and build a better community.
