The thing that really galvanises us as a team is the shocking and tragic loss of somebody very special to us in April this year, Emily Pearce.
Emily had Type 1 Diabetes and experiencing a dramatic hypo in her sleep is thought to have contributed to her death whilst sleeping. Her death was a massive shock and it still is. Emily’s family (sister, cousins), boyfriend, colleagues and friends are represented in Team Em And Me! however we are a fraction of the hundreds who attended her funeral testament to Emily’s lovely personality and the impact she had on people both personally and professionally as a Mental Health Social Worker. Emily would have had a place to run the London Marathon in 2013 as her first marathon so it seemed fitting that we took on this challenge for her. Emily was an enthusiastic fundraiser for Diabetes UK having raised money through other running events before (as you can see in her picture) and therefore in having run London 2013 for Diabetes UK, our team is continuing her contribution. It really means a lot to us that the money will help others manage their condition but also that it can help fund research into ultimately finding a cure for Type 1.
Huge thanks for your support!
