Bethan Rides Across Britain for two special causes- British Heart Foundation and Stroke Association

Team photo

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This September I will be taking on my biggest ever cycling challenge. I will be riding the length of Britain from its most southerly point (Land's End in Cornwall) to the most northerly (John O' Groats in the north of Scotland)

I will be covering 969 miles in total over 9 gruelling days! Oh and we are camping along the route...

Those of you who know me will know I'm a keen cyclist but this is something I am truly terrified of doing! It's a massive personal challenge as well as an opportunity to raise vital funds for charity.

See here for more information on the challenge:

There are two charities in particular that are close to my heart and I have decided to raise for both: the British Heart Foundation and the Stroke Association.

I have created two separate fundraising pages and joined them both here so you can pick your favourite to donate to or support both if you're feeling generous!

Here is a little bit about why I have chosen each charity...

British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation funds reseach into the causes and treatment of cardiac disease. I sadly never had the opportunity to meet my grandfather after he died of a heart attack before I was born. Then a couple of years ago, my father suffered a heart attack.  He was a fit and healthy person, in training for a marathon at the time so it came as a huge shock. Thanks to the excellent teams at Royal Glam and Heath Hospital he was lucky enough to survive. More research is definately needed into hereditary heart conditions and that's where BHF comes in. They also support heart attack survivors and their families during the recovery process. For more information see their website here: https://www.bhf.org.uk

Stroke Association

The Stroke Assocation is important to me because I lost my grandmother after she suffered several strokes during her lifetime. Even as a child, I could see first hand how it affected her daily life. During my Speech Therapy studies at University I was pleased to volunteer for the Stroke Association's weekly club in Cardiff supporting stroke survivors coping with Aphasia (loss of language) post stroke. I could see there the great work the Stroke Association does to help those people along their road to recovery after Stroke- to really show that there is Life After Stroke! For more infomation see their website here: https://www.stroke.org.uk

Fundraising Target

You'll see my fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help me smash this goal!

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 25%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charity, faster, with JustGiving.
