**UPDATE**
We made it to France in 9hrs 11 mins which was the fastest crossing of the year and was 1.5hrs under WR pace for the intended triple crossing, however as soon as we turned at Cap Gris Nez, so did the big Spring tide and swept us 6 miles down the French coast, into the ferry lane. Despite swimming at well over 4km per hour, we could not make ground and it was unsafe to continue. With heavy hearts we had to pull the plug but we'll be back in 2017 to smash the record on a better tide! Thank you everyone for your amazing support!
**All being well we should be starting our swim at 4am Saturday 3rd Oct, track us live on the following link - http://www.channelswimmingassociation.com/pilots/louise-jane/**
In 2013, our team Andy's Channel Ladies smashed the World Record for the fastest 2 way crossing of the English Channel, completing the swim in 18hrs 13mins, a record we still hold. We want to go one step further in October and break the 3 way World Record, which currently stands at 32hrs 31mins!
What we will encounter on the swim -
63 miles of swimming minimum (we will swim further due to tides)
Water temps between 13 and 16C (no wetsuits are allowed)
Stinging jellyfish
Swimming round the clock, including through the night in complete darkness
Rough seas
Floating debris
The Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world with up to 500 tankers, container ships, ferries and fishing vessels passing through the narrow straight every day. The M25 of shipping!
The BHF is a cause close to many of us - 3 team members have required their help in the past. We are also supporting UNICEF, one of our team is an ambassador for the charity and was lucky enough to travel to Papua New Guinea to see the incredible work they do. Please support us if you can - any amount no matter how small will be gratefully received!
Thank you so much.
