Our daughter Abigail was born with Craniosynostosis back in 1999 a rare genetic condition which prevents one side of the head from forming properly in the womb. She has received multiple operations over the years to correct the shape of her skull and head over the years to correct her asymmetric appearance and has had extensive ophthalmology procedures to assist her eye sight. Abbie still has a way to go but hopefully will be operation free by the time she reaches 18.
Tragically my youngest child Sonny was admitted to Great Ormond Street a week before christmas after investing caustic soda. An accident that nearly killed him. He suffered terrible internal burns to his mouth, throat and stomach and has been left being unable to swallow due to the scaring in his oesophagus, which requires dilatation very two weeks. Sonny spent two weeks over christmas in the hospital and will continue to be undertake care in much the same way as Abbie is.
Abbie and Sonny are 2 of 6 children and part of their care and recovery comes from the love of their family, this is very hard to achieve when your loved ones are so far away and that is why we would like to attempt to raise £12,000 towards family accommodation, something that was and still is vital to us during any hospital stay with the kids. The feeling of helplessness when you have to return home and leave your child at the hospital is something no parent should have to endure and one which we were lucky enough to have avoided over christmas. Accommodation is basic but it does enable you to be near your child and only a stones throw away should you be needed.
With this in mind i hope you will make a small donation to enable us to do this, I have a heap of challenges ahead of me this year ( sonny's health permitting) and they start with a land mark trip trip to New Zealand to run around both the north and south islands finishing with the punishing 100 mile race called the North Burn. I also have two 50 mile ultras in June and July, a few mud runs. A coastal run and any other events that will all be sponsored separately as I achieve them with different people. Our family will also be putting on a music show and a charity ball later in the year to raise as much money as we can. So wish us all luck!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this page!
Hopefully see you on the other side with a nice fat cheque for GOSH!
