We want to say THANK YOU and we need your help in doing so! We are organising a series of fundraising events to mark Laura-Marie Greenfield’s 18th birthday. A milestone she was able to reach thanks to life-saving treatment and ongoing care from the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.
Laura was born with an extremely rare condition called bilateral vocal chord palsy. The condition left Laura unable to breath without the aid of a tracheostomy tube for the first ten years of her life. She made no sound for the first year of her life and it was not known if she would ever gain a voice or breathe unaided. Remarkably Laura's strength, courage and determination led her to cope with her condition and she now breaths freely, speaks (loudly!) and while she still requires ongoing care she lives a relatively normal life. This is made possible by the amazing team at The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton.
Upon turning 18 Laura’s care will be transferred over to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and she wanted to mark the transition by raising money for Rockinghorse the fundraising branch at the Royal Alex and Promise Dreams who offer ‘dreams’ for sick children. Both charities have a great personal significance to Laura and her family and really do make a difference.
On the 27th July we will be hosting Brighton’s Pirate Takeover a sponsored walk starting at The Big Beach Café at Hove Lagoon and ending at the Yellowave clubhouse on Marine Drive. It will be a fun filled family day out raising money for two amazing causes. All we need you to do is register here, get sponsored and turn up on the day in all your best pirate finery – anything from a bandana or eye patch to a full Jack Sparrow number!
Shoreham Academy, Laura’s sixth form will be donating to the cause as their summer charity and are hosting cake sales, non-uniform days and even a pyjama fancy dress day to raise money.
