Later in the year in September, a group of cyclists from Bucks FRS are undertaking a charity cycle ride to Ypres in Belgium. The relevance of Ypres is that every year in November a group from Bucks and Oxfordshire travel to Ypres to take part in the Remembrance Parade under the Menin Gate. While we are there we undertake various charity functions, last year raising some £1500 which was distributed to Help for Heroes, British Heart Foundation and a local cancer hospice. Sadly 2 stalwarts of these trips passed have away over the last 12 months and the idea of the cycle ride in their memory was born.
The trip is over 4 days and involves the group cycling about 65 miles a day and staying on Fire Stations overnight in Essex, Calais and Ypres then returning home on the 4th day. The aim is to raise money for The FF Charity, The British Heart Foundation and The Florence Nightingale Hospice and as I’m sure you can appreciate will take quite a sizable amount of time and cost to organize, (and a fair bit of legwork!). Also as a part of this we are looking to hold various collections, most probably in Milton Keynes and Aylesbury.
