Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Team Ollie-RC RACER consists of Peter Butt, Stuart Groves, Tim Lancaster and Alun Rowe and they will be driving a 1998 Saab 93 convertible, tastefully decorated to resemble RC Racer from Toy Story. The car has 257000 miles on the clock- undaunted by this and comforted by its full service history, the team will make their way over to Caernarfon in North Wales for the rally start.

Of course, it would not be a proper charity rally if the team did not make the effort too and so we shall be dressed as Woody, Buzz, Evil Emperor Zurg and Stinky Pete. None of the team came forward to be Jessie...

When we heard that a friends child had been diagnosed with cancer, shortly before his second birthday, words simply felt inadequate. You wonder where the children and the families get the strength to fight this disease and you realise that the answer is simple- because they have no choice. We decided that we should try and bring some smiles to their days with the Toy Story theme, as well as raising money for the charity supporting them.

Oliver Lee, the inspiration and drive for Team Ollie, has Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer affecting just 60 children a year. Oliver had a 5.5cm tumour on his bladder and secondary tumours on his lungs and pelvic bone, and had to be catheterised as he could not urinate due to the size of his tumour. At his scan in January 2012 all secondary tumours have gone and the primary is down to 1cm.

This has taken 4 rounds of Chemo, causing hair and skin loss, but this little boy keeps smiling!

Next steps for Oliver are a final round of Chemo, then possible radiotherapy, surgery and/or proton therapy.

===== Edited 8/6/12: Oliver is responding very well to the range of treatments although he is having to deal with a number of side effects. It's rare to see a picture of him not smiling though :)  =====

The event is not a race to the finish, it's about getting from A to B completing challenges along the way, winning points to be crowned Scally Rally 2012 champions! The route loosely follows the Three Peaks challenge with stop overs in Lytham St Annes, Dumfries, Inverary and ending in Fort William. Taking place from 29 June to 2 July, we hope to meet up with fellow Tablers on route and that they will help us reach our £3000 fundraising target!!
