Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2012 at the age of 61 our father was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease. We initially thought he had a mild cognitive impairment but as his memory worsened it became clear that his diagnosis was bad.
Over the years our father has become a totally different person. We remember the confident, driven yet reserved man that he was. This cruel disease has taken this person from us and we now have a very vulnerable, frightened man, who needs full support from my mum, brother and myself.
It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 1 million people with dementia in the UK with the financial cost of over 26 billion per annum. This cost will be significantly higher if it were not for the unrecognised, unpaid carers that struggle to cope and mange this disease.
I decided last year I wanted to do something to raise awareness and aid research for this cruel disease. 2016 is the year I will complete 16 physical challenges for my dad with support from my brother, family and dear friends.
Our father enjoyed running, cycling, swimming and walking so it felt only right that I try to complete each of these.
Thank you for taking the time to donate.
