Story
As a team Ripon Specsavers are attempting to complete the Ripon Rowell. We have challenged ourselves to complete the 49 mile walk circling our city within 24 hours.
We are sharing any funds raised between Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) and Cancer Research UK. We ask where possible our generous supporters are able to split their support between the 2 causes.
To donate to Cancer Research UK please use link: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/alisons-giving-page-3452 . By supporting Cancer Research we hope to support their cause of bringing about a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. This is a cause close to our teams hearts, as our member last year we lost her beloved Mum Jan Lee to cancer. We will all be taking on this challenge and walking it in memory of her. She is missed dearly. So many people are affected by cancer, whether it be loosing someone, supporting loved ones through cancer, or even going through treatment themselves.
As a team of healthcare providers we believe everyone should have access to eyecare. 80% of homeless people need glasses to see properly, to look for work, find accommodation or simply to keep themselves safe. However one third of homeless people have never had an eye test. Another third not in the last ten years. Having access to a VCHP clinic increases a homeless person's chances of having an eye test in date from 24% to 76%. To donate to this cause please use the link at the side of the page.
If you would like to motivate us over a specific mile please leave a comment. Your support is greatly appreciated (especially if you believe enough in us to sponsor mile 40+!).
