Raising money for North London Hospice and Royal Free Charity

Story

Our dear dad and pappou, Andreas Ekkeshis passed away peacefully in London on Monday 9th December 2024. He had been in hospital for seven weeks after a stroke which happened on the first day of a long-awaited holiday in Cyprus.

We are all devastated to have lost him so abruptly, and feel he has gone too soon. But we also feel incredibly proud for all he achieved in his 78 years, and that he was ours. Dad was not only an outstanding father, husband and family man, but also an exceptional businessman, a supporter of many charitable causes and he did so much to promote Greek Cypriot culture and education in our community. We have received so many messages noting his amazing achievements and his dedication to family and friends.

For us, his most significant legacy is the pure, sincere, bountiful love he had for his family - a blueprint for us all to continue.

When dad finally returned to London via air ambulance, he was placed in the care of the Acute Stroke team at Barnet Hospital. We were moved by the compassion, care and kindness they showed towards him and to us as a family. Their dedication to every patient's recovery shone through.

For this reason, we have chosen to fundraise in dad's memory for two incredibly important charities; The Neuro Rehabilitation Unit at Barnet and Royal Free Hospital (fund 103), and North London Hospice. Both charities provide support and care to those who have been impacted by strokes.

We would like to thank those who have shared their stories of dad. These have uplifted us and affirmed that we were so lucky to have him as our dad, pappou and husband.

With all our love.
