Story
We are a group of Knights of the United Orders. Together with our amazing Dames, we are undertaking Challenges to raise money to support the vital work of the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, which is the only charitable provider of expert eye care in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, treating patients regardless of ethnicity, religion or their ability to pay.
Having completed a 24-hour Running Relay around London in 2020 and a remote 48-hour Relay in 2021. We completed two Team events in 2022: a 3-day relay across Great Britain and a 24-hour remote relay on St John the Evangelist's Day (27th December )
2023-2024 our Knights and Dames are completing the ‘Monopoly Board’ challenge across London visiting all the sites mentioned on the board in a single day. They are also committed to personal challenges.
PLUS a Forty-Eight Hour Relay on 27th and 28th December 2024 from midnight to midnight.
We also undertake personal Challenges for the Eye Hospital such as skydives, firewalks, marathons and other events. The key element being that the individual is challenging themselves in aid of the Hospital.
On the JustGiving.com platform, as a result of direct donations and Gift Aid, we have thus far raised:
£3,970 for a Swift as part of the Tree of Hope in the Peace Garden at Muristan;
£7,700 to fund a specialist surgeon’s theatre chair for lengthy surgeries, especially vitroretinal surgery sessions;
£12,000 for a portable auto-refractometer to scan the eyes of patients not able to sit in a chair in the hospitals or clinics; and
£12,000 for an autorefractor-keratometer, a scanner for measuring the degree of refractive error in the eye.
Our current Funding Target, set for our Team by the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital is:
£25,000 to purchase a large Steam Autoclave. This will sterilise medical equipment for a variety of eye surgeries and procedures in the Nablus Day Hospital that will open in 2024.
The Holy Land has a 10% higher rate of ophthalmic impairment than the European and North American average and some 40% of patients treated by the Eye Hospital Group are children; and yet over 80% of blindness in the region is treatable! Please help us and continue the Eye Hospital’s mission of Saving Sight and Changing Lives.
