Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will know, I work for Aberlour as a corporate fundraiser - this is my way of showing my dedication to the amazing work that's done every day by my colleagues in Children and Families Services.
My position has meant that I've been lucky enough to visit many incredible Aberlour services and meet the families and children that we support to overcome various obstacles. I'm inspired by the mums at Family Outreach Edinburgh, who have turned their lives around in the face of harsh adversity. And I'm moved by the sight of a child's bedroom at our full time residential service for children with complex disabilities in Dunfermline.
So, despite every best effort to run this year's Marathon, I've unfortunately had to take time to rest and recover from a running injury, and instead I'll be running the Half Marathon on May 26th. At about a third of the way through my training, I returned from a 9mile run unable to climb the stairs with terrible pain in my left knee. After some physio visits and lots of reading, it's been diagnosed as IT Band syndrome - a common overuse injury in first time Marathon runners. I'm absolutely devastated...but not one to be stopped completely!
I'm asking all of my friends to "buy me a drink". Just £3.00, less than the price of a pint in Cloisters (!), will make a big difference. For a start, it will pay for a child living in poverty to attend an after school club or activity class. So please consider donating a quick £3.00 if you're getting a round in. You can do this by text - just text NRUN93 £3 to 70070 and your whole £3 will be donated to Aberlour.
I'll keep you updated on training hilarity. Maybe even give you a flash of my hi-vis if you're lucky!! ;)
Thank you! x
