Story

The challenge

I am taking part in my third Brathay 10in10 (10 marathons in 10 days) from 9-18th May.

I hold the current Guiness World Record of 30hrs 20'54'' for 10 marathons over consecutive days (an average of 3h02'05''. This year I will attempt to complete all 10 marathons in under 3 hours each.

Brathay Trust

I am raising money for Brathay Trust, a national charity that helps children and young people to make a positive contribution to society.

They raise aspirations, develop positive attitudes and increase self-confidence, helping those they work with to develop their social skills. Their personal development programmes ensure that young people fulfil their potential.

Orlando Rogers Foundation

I am being supported in my quest by the Orlando Rogers Foundation based in my home county of Devon, through their recently developed partnership with Brathay Trust.  The foundation was set up by the family of Orlando Rogers, following his tragic death at the age of 26 and aims to encourage, inspire and support people, young and not so young, to achieve their full potential. Through this partnership the foundation have very kindly offered to match my sponsorship with a donation to Brathay Trust. This means that for every £1 you are able to donate £2.25 (including Gift Aid) will towards supporting young people.

Why I want to raise money for Brathay Trust:

Through primary school and secondary school I was picked on. As other people know there have been through this, it is not fun and it can knock your self-confidence in a bad way. Being dyslexic too I've never found it easy to write and read. But that's where I was very lucky and started doing sport, and today I can use my running talent to help others.

Brathay recognise that children and young people face many challenges in their day-to-day lives, and they work with some of the most vulnerable, disengaged and ‘hard-to-reach’, helping them to develop the confidence, motivation, and skills they need to unlock their potential and make positive changes in their lives. As a young person I would have loved to have taken part in some of the activities that Brathay runs. I'm not saying I had a bad childhood, but I would like to know that I'm making a difference to those that really do need it and don't have to miss out on an opportunity to see the great outdoors or to meet some fantastic people.
