Story
Hi my name is Tam and I'm at Sea. Thanks for visiting my page.
Check out my blog for up-to-date stories from the sea and my adventures around the world.
I work for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) as a second engineer on both the tall sailing ships that enables people of all abilities to sail side-by-side as equals. The JST do not take passengers and everyone is expected to get involved in sail setting, steering the boat, cleaning and helping the cook at meal times. This often means that voyage crew board the ship on day 1 and are up the masts and steering the ship on day 2.
Working as an engineer on board a tall sailing ship creates many challenges as if anything breaks, we have limited resources to mend it. Working in the small engine and machinery spaces in high seas can be dangerous and challenging....And I love it!
Why the Marathon des Sables? ...I love a challenge!
Before the MdS I will be sailing Lord Nelson round Australia, taking Tenacious from Southampton to Palma, circumnavigating the Southern Ocean (rounding the infamous Cape Horn) and sailing to Antarctica (in Lord Nelson again) before disembarking to immediately run across the Sahara desert!
Why make life easy? ....Did I mention that I love a challenge?
This is why I will be "Sailing the coldest and running the hottest"
So please dig deep and help me to raise some money for this wonderful charity
