In memory of Susan Hutton
We provide skilled and compassionate care to people with a life-limiting illness.

Story

Between the 1st and 14th June 2014, we will be travelling 140 miles from Stoke-on-Trent to Oxford in a swan pedalo!

The two intrepid pedalo-eers are Lloyd Starley and Oliver Finch from Ashford in Kent.

We are doing this rather bizarre event to raise funds for East-Kent based charity, Pilgrims Hospices, in memory of our good friend’s Mum who very sadly passed away on 26th February 2013, following a short battle with cancer.

Susan Anne Hutton was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2012, and was given only 9 months to live.

Just 2 months later she passed away, leaving behind her husband Jeff, children Jamie, Matthew, Katie and Alex, grandchildren Finley, Teigan, Kacey and the at-the-time unborn George (named after Sue's correct prediction of the Royal baby's name).

Sue was a very popular, family-centred lady who enjoyed a good pint of Shepherd Neame's Oranjeboom and was a huge Arsenal fan.

Sue was a regular face on the local women's darts circuit, playing for The Wheel at Westwell, and was a regular at Cade Road Church in South Ashford. She worked at Paydens Pharmacy, Burger King briefly after having children, and then back at Paydens until she fell ill.

She was a strong supporter of the Teenage Cancer Trust (following the death of her daughter, Kirsty, in 2006 from cancer) and even had a Cancer Research UK tattoo. She was a registered organ donor but due to the circumstances surrounding her passing it was not possible to fulfil her wish.

Towards the end of her life, Sue was helped and supported by community nurses from Pilgrims Hospices, and this has helped the decision of which charity to support through our event.
