Story
Swanmore Primary School supports a charity called St.George Foundation which was set up by a local Swanmore resident, initially to help children living on the streets in Sierra Leone, West Africa as a result of civil war.
The St. George Foundation runs a centre close to Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone and it provides a safe, loving, temporary home for children in need. These children, some even day-old babies, are often orphans and the charity works hard to find relatives or foster families who will take them in and care for them.
During their time at the centre they are fed, clothed and sent to school whenever possible.
Some of the money Swanmore Primary School gives is used to cover any schooling costs of fourteen children – two for each year group (YR-Y6).
When Sierra Leone was struck by the deadly Ebola crisis (2014-15) and more recently, in August 2017, torrential flooding and mudslides, the St George Foundation was asked to provide immediate emergency relief and has helped hundreds of children.
They have had their skills, facilities and finances stretched to the limits and any help we can provide to support their work is gratefully received.
Please give generously. Thank you.
