Who is Rhino Ark? Rhino Ark was founded 18 years ago in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service to conserve and protect the Aberdare ecosystem. One of Rhino Ark’s primary projects is an electric fence completely surrounding the Aberdare National Park and Reserve.  The fence protects the enclosed ecosystem, including the endangered Black Rhino, and helps eliminate human/wildlife conflicts by protecting the lives, crops and livestock of neighboring farmers.

Why? The Aberdares is one of ’s main rain catchments areas and the source of five of the country’s main rivers, providing hydro-electrical power and water to millions of Kenyans.  The myriad of flora and fauna in the Aberdares, including the Black Rhino, are an attraction for tourists, a keystone of the Kenyan economy.  The fence being built by the Rhino Ark is an effort to harmonize all these interests, physical, financial and political, in an equitable and sustainable way.  Since the Ark ’s founding, over 230 kms of the fence has been built. In that area, ecosystems, forest, animals and farms are really benefiting. But 110 km of fence still urgently needs to be built and maintained! And you can help us to do this!

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu. These provide an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo as well as protecting vital upland watertables of Kenya
