The Wolverhampton Banks' 10K run · 1 September 2013
4/9/13 UPDATE! Thanks so very very much to everyone who has kindly donated to our cause for Georgia. We've all been amazed by your generosity.
On Sunday I ran the whole 10K and completed it in 1hr09min17secs! I came 207th out of 264 runners :) Thanks again to all who motivated me, kept me running and pushing myself and stood on the roadside to cheer me on.... and most of all thank you to Georgia for being such an amazing inspiration.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - Here's my story...
I am fundraising on behalf of my niece Georgia who is a huge inspiration to all who know her. She is 4years old and last month she was finally given the all clear from Leukaemia following 2 and a half years of treatment. As a family we are fundraising this month to raise money for the hospitals who cared for her and saved her life. To read more about Georgia's story follow the link to her team site www.justgiving.com/teams/georgiakatedurney .
I am fundraising for her by taking part in the first Wolverhampton Banks' 10K run on September 1st.
Four years ago just before turning 30 I began to teach myself how to go running - Many of you may think it's a strange thing to not be able to do at the age of 29!
However I had actually suffered with chronic Asthma since I was a young child and it had always hampered my ability to do any form of cardio training. A fifty metre run would leave me gasping for air and in need of my inhaler. In my late twenties I was given a new medication that enabled me to do many things that I had never been able to do before. Spurred on by this I began 9months of training to enable me to run and complete the 5K Race for life in 2009. It took me a long time to understand how to breathe whilst running and the actual feeling of being breathless without having asthma symptoms was an entirely new concept for me!
To this day my biggest challenge when running is regulating my breathing and avoiding triggers in the environment such as smoke or pollen.
I have now decided to push my lungs one step further by running 10,000 metres. As I type this it is 4weeks until the race and my furthest training run to date is 6K - So I still have a way to go!!
Please help to keep me motivated by donating on this page towards Georgia's cause. I am determined to run the full 10K without stopping and I will give it my best shot.
Thank you for reading :)
