EARTHQUAKE APPEAL:

The terrible recent earthquakes that have led to such a loss of life and displaced families have been catastrophic for Nepal. We are working closely with our Partner Charity, the Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF). The priority for Nepal is to provide shelter for the thousands of homeless families who have lost their homes. The Monsoon, that brings three months of rain, is due in early June. So we must move fast, and we are focussing all our efforts on the state of emergency that now exists across Nepal.

Please donate so that we can get money to Nepal quickly. Every donation will be DOUBLED by St. James’s Place Wealth Management, who have a long history of generously supporting Nepal.

Please forward this website and link to your friends and contacts. Remember, everything you donate is DOUBLED, and because we are all volunteers, every penny finds its way to Nepal.

Thank you for your support.

OUR STORY:
Everyone has heard of Everest, and of Sherpa Tenzing. On 29th May, 1953, accompanied by a New Zealand beekeeper called Edmund Hillary, they became the first men to reach the summit of the highest mountain in the world. It was an extraordinary achievement, the culmination of years of planning, and would never have happened without the Sherpa people who live at the foot of Everest. In 1953, these incredible men put their lives at risk on the mountain to help ferry loads of equipment so that they could give their children opportunities that were never an option to them. Sixty years on, nothing has changed. Sherpa’s risk their lives each climbing season in the hope that they can pay for their children to attend schools far away from where they live, and so that they can have career choices.

Separated for up to four months at a time, these children are the lucky few – they are hungry for education and fulfil their parent’s dream of not putting themselves at risk in the high mountains. For many other children near Everest, that choice is not available – many do not go to school, and education standards vary widely. We have seen schools in the area with a single teacher and a class of 50+, no resources, no books or even a chalk board. They do the best they can with what they have.

We aim to change that - to bring quality education to the Sherpa people so that their children can flourish, learn new skills, and create opportunities for themselves, whilst staying within their own community.

You can help this process by making a donation. This is an entirely voluntary organisation – we all pay our own way. Everything you donate will help build and equip schools, so that these children can fulfil the dreams of people like Sherpa Tenzing, 60 years ago.

We are working in partnership with the Nepal Youth Foundation in order to achieve our aims and goals to support the Sherpa children and ensure that they have career choices that their Father’s did not have.

We recently received a grant from the St. James's Place Foundation (www.sjpfoundation.co.uk) to help rejuvenate the school at Pangboche, please check out our website and Facebook page for further details of the projects we hope to support (www.supportingsherpachildren.org.uk or www.facebook.com/supportsherpachildren )

We will provide regular updates to everyone that donates so that you can see exactly where your money is going.
