Sumo's Ten Point Plan, 1 August 2012

Story

Thank you for visiting my page. I have decided to create a ten point plan, each point is a unique and challenging event that will test me in different ways but each one will test me! The events are as follows:

September 2012 - Ironman Wales 2.5mile sea swim-112 mile bike-26.6 mile run (completed Setember 16th Time 15hours 15mins)

October 2012 - 80 mile cycle road race through the pennines (hills for the world!) (completed October 7th Time 6hours 5mins)

January 2013 - Toughguy Challenge - 8 miles of hell, fire, electric fences, freezing water, assault course, something called the killing fields and thrown in a bit of running too. Described as the safest most dangerous race in the world. (completed January 27th Time 3Hrs 57mins!!!) Now i know why they call it tough guy!!!

April 26th 2013 - 24 mile swim in Guildford lido, I will swim 1 mile every hour on the hour for 24 hours straight. The swim will start at 9am on Friday morning and finish 9am on Saturday morning. The lido is outsdoor so the air temprature will be a factor, the distance is comparable of the English Channel if you were to swim point to point. (completed all 24 miles in the 24 hours, a massive thanks to Martin Clapham and Lindsay Hunter who buddied for me over the 24 hour period making me food and drink, keeping me warm, dressing me, undressing me etc, total respect to you both. Hard challenge this and one I am very proud to say I completed on behalf of Cedar House).

May 2013 - Ironman 70.3 Mallorca - Half distance ironman but with a hell of a mountain to climb (literally). (completed in a time of 6hrs and 20 mins which given the little road training I did because of the time taken training for Guildford 2 weeks earlier I was very happy to see the finish in under 6hrs and 30 mins which was my target, very hot but very enjoyable. Certainly one to remeber, thanks to Jenni and Helen from The Cedar House Support Group for travelling out to see me< I really appreciated the support. Thanks also to Michael Hopkins and Terry Connor for keeping me company and doing the event with  me).

July 27th - Bridge night ironman, Dartford - A chance to test myself over the full ironman distance of 2.4 miles lake swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run through the night. The event will start at 6pm and must be completed by 11am the next morning.

August 12th - 18th 2013 - Single relay across the English Channel, this will be my first crossing in an all male team of 6 swimmers.

October 2013 - The first ever solo Bournemouth - Dublin Triathlon, 5.6 mile sea swim, 340 mile bike ride and a 33 mile run incorporating the 2013 Dublin Marathon.

April 2014 - John O Groats to Lands End cycle ride - 1000 miles in 7 days - enough said I think!

August 2014 - Double relay across the English Channel (team unconfirmed) - England to France and back again in one hit.

February 2015 - Public vote surprise challenge - Submit any ideas to office@jacobdevelopment.co.uk

August 2015 - Solo swim across the English Channel, widely regarded as the toughest swimming event in the world, undertaken by many and completed by few.

The reason for undertaking the above is to raise support and awareness for The Cedar House Support Group who have helped me and my family deal with a very difficult time in our lives over the last year. Postnatal depression is a very damaging and harmful illness which for many goes untreated, this illness can ruin lives and in the most extreme circumstances end it also. Please take a look at www.postnataldepression.com/cedar-house-support-group to read and understand some of the personal accounts of families who have been affected. The support group deals with women on a personal level and provides help, and support sessions when they really need it but as always without correct funding this service will not exist and believe me when I tell you it is needed. Mental illness still comes with a huge stigma, by helping to raise awareness of this problem my wife and I  hope that others will not be embarrassed to come forward and not suffer in silence.

Thank you for reading my page and I really hope you will feel my efforts are worth a small (or large) donation. I will keep my page updated with photo's and video of my training and events so please keep visiting.
