UK Police Unity Tour 2015 · 24 July 2015
I will be riding with other officers from Wymondham in Norfolk, the 180 miles (approx) to the Police National Memorial Aboretum in Staffordshire to raise funds and awareness for Care of Police Survivors (otherwise known as COPS) this is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives whilst on duty. They aim to ensure that survivors have all the help they need to cope with such a tragedy, and that they remain part of the police family as they rebuild their lives.
"While realising the dangers of policing, no officer expects to lose their life on duty. When such a tragedy occurs, the surviving family endures emotions which can include denial, bewilderment, anger and depression. They also encounter many practical difficulties in respect of such sudden loss. Eventual isolation from the police environment often exacerbates such situations, and leaves survivors thinking that no one understands.
The police service does not have the resources to maintain support beyond the immediate aftermath of the death. That is where 'Care Of Police Survivors' (COPS) comes in. It connects bereaved families with others who truly understand, by virtue of having been in the same situation themselves. This peer based support is the mainstay of COPS activity, but is enhanced by projects aimed at providing survivors with the support needed to rebuild their lives."

The ride will comprise of three 'stages' the first two days being approximately 80 miles each and the last day being around 10 miles, make no mistake, this is a big challenge for me and I expect to suffer as a result, but it will be worth it in the end. Why am I doing it? Because, tomorrow, next week or next month it could be my family in need. Please dig deep and help the families of those left behind by officers who died helping others x
