Story
I have been given the opportunity to fulfil a dream of learning to ballroom dance; my very talented and patient dance partner Sara Omar is teaching me the ropes ahead of a showdown with other members of the Princes Trust North West Committee on 12th February 2014 at an event at Alma de Cuba in Liverpool. All funds are being raised for The Princes Trust.
As many of you will know, The Princes Trust is a charity very dear to my heart.
The Trust is the only national charity which helps disadvantaged and young people from the age of 13 to 30 get their lives back on track, and with unemployment reaching over the 1 million mark for young people across the UK, these young kids need our help more than ever.
The Princes Trust runs a number of programmes that give young people the skills and confidence to move into training, education and employment.
Whilst the Trust helps young people nationally, the needs of young people in Merseyside have never been so great. Liverpool has one of the highest percentages of workless households in Britain with over a third of all children growing up in this environment, and more than 12,000 kids in Merseyside claim Jobseekers Allowance.
We therefore have a duty to help these young people, who have lost all hope of a better life. They are not only affected by unemployment, but many are also abused, bullied, and homeless – they turn to drugs, clearly resulting in trouble.
In Merseyside, the Trust helps over 2000 kids each year that other organisations simply cannot reach. We now have our own Princes Trust Centre in the heart of Liverpool City Centre, where the lives of young people can be transformed with the help and support offered by our Fairbridge programme
Please help us support more young people to become economically active, confident and motivated individuals.
