Story

BismillahirRahmaniRahim. Alhamdulillahi RubbilAalameen.

As you know, we here at Seeking Reward Foundation (SRF) are always looking for opportunities of Sadaqah Jariyah to maximise your donations and your reward for the hereafter- may Allaah Make and Keep us sincere in doing this for His Sake alone.

By the Grace and Mercy of Allaah, SRF have been presented with the chance to help 7 students of knowledge who are currently studying at Muhammed Bin Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of our Sponsor a Student project.

There is no doubt that the virtues of seeking knowledge are many. Allah says in the Qu’ran, ‘Are those who know equal to those who know not?’ (al-Zumar 39:9) The Prophet Sallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allaah will make a path to Paradise easy for him.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, Kitaab al-‘Ilm, 10) Allah commanded the Prophet to supplicate for an increase in knowledge, “and say: ‘My Lord! Increase me in knowledge’” (Ta-Ha 20:114).

Not everyone is able to seek knowledge. However, helping the students of knowledge to attain their goal can get you the rewards of seeking knowledge even if you’re not the one who is doing it.

We have all seen the students of knowledge who have qualified from Islamic Universities who are now spreading Islam, according to the Qur’an and Sunnah as understood by the companions, to people across the world. Imagine how many people either revert to Islam or begin practicing after listening to their lectures or reading one of their books! These brothers are future teachers who will be doing the same, Insha’Allah, and now is your chance to get part of the reward.

Our contact in Riyadh is the representative for the Western Students at the University. This is what he has to say:

I present to you in this blessed month of Ramadan a golden opportunity. I personally know of seven married students of knowledge who need your help in their pursuit for knowledge. As you know the government of Saudi Arabia gives students from around the world scholarships to study at various universities in Saudi Arabia. By the grace of Allah I have been given the opportunity to study at Muhammad Bin Saud University in Riyadh and furthermore I have been elected as the representative of the Western students. Therefore I am able to inform you of the problems that the students are facing.

The government provides a monthly allowance for students which generally suffices the single students. However, the monthly allowance is not increased for married students nor are they provided with accommodation for their families. After speaking to seven married students and discussing the problems they are facing, we call upon the Muslims in the West to support their brothers in seeking knowledge. It is very unfortunate that I know of many students who have had to leave their studies due to the financial problems they faced. It is a sad reality that only a few manage to graduate and most students drop out before completing the course.

In order to address this issue, SRF is raising money to buy vouchers for the students to spend at a supermarket called Othaim, which is equivalent to Lidl or Netto, where students do their weekly shopping.

We have clarified with Shaykh Adil As-Subayee (May Allaah Preserve Him) that helping these students of knowledge with basic needs is classed as sadaqah Jariyah. Please email us if you would like more details: contact@seekingreward.org

After making the students complete a survey and working out their expenditure depending on the size of their family, we have calculated, for the seven families we need £1000 per month in vouchers. As the academic year is 9 months and most of the students travel to their home countries, the vouchers will only be given to students during the Academic year. The goal is to raise £9000 to cover the shopping expenses of seven families for the upcoming academic year.

As always with SRF, this is a 100% donation policy. Our contact will be responsible for giving the vouchers to each student every month.

As you know, we here at SRF are extremely careful in how we use your donations. Each student has signed an agreement with strict terms and conditions in regards to the vouchers, but more importantly that they will strive to spread the Deen of Islam and the knowledge they have gained whilst studying at the university. For more details of the agreements and conditions the students must adhere to in order to receive the vouchers, please email us at: contact@seekingreward.org

Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah sallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “A Muslim is a brother of (another) Muslim, he neither wrongs him nor does hand him over to one who does him wrong. If anyone fulfils his brother’s need, Allah will fulfil his needs; if one relieves a Muslim of his troubles, Allah will relieve his troubles on the Day of Resurrection; and if anyone covers up a Muslim (his sins), Allah will cover him up (his sins) on the Resurrection Day.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
