Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We at PAMIS, a charity based at the University of Dundee, are inviting you to support our ‘Spend a Penny for PAMIS’ campaign that will see workplaces across the country raise money and awareness of our charity and the work that we do, for the first time, on the 19th of November- World Toilet Day. We are asking your organisation to register for free through our website at www.pamis.org.uk
We at PAMIS want to encouraging workplaces to raise awareness amongst staff of the difficulties people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) have while attempting to access suitable toilet facilities in Scotland. Back in 2006 PAMIS started the ‘Changing Places’ campaign to ensure there was provision of accessible toilets for people with PMLD and their families and carers. We have now joined forces with other organisations and the Changing Places Consortium. Changing Places toilets are publicly accessible facilities with enough space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist. Without these, families have to change the person they care for on a cramped and dirty toilet floor. The alternative is to limit outings to a few short hours - or to not go out at all.
Please watch the short film below as it captures a very real example of the everyday challenge for the carers and families of people with PMLD. The family involved agreed to the making of this film as they wanted people to understand the difficulties they face.
