Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On Saturday 30th August Henry and I took on this challenge knowing it's the furthest we will have ever cycled in one attempt. Some people fly to Newcastle, it takes long enough to cover the distance in a train and we did the same........on a blooming bike. We covered the 309 miles in 23hrs and 25 minutes - 35 minutes inside our target time.
We had serious trepidation about doing this ride but did it knowing that every penny we raised will help fund research into a disease that, currently, has no known cure.
Ataxia-Telangiectasia is a very complex condition that affects a variety of different systems in the body so research into A-T can also give insights into common conditions like cancer, compromised immune system and lung conditions and health generally.
This is the story about the girl that has inspired us to continue raising money for Action for A-T (it's well worth watching):

This is from the Ride24 website and gives you more insight into the ride:
300 miles due north from London – Newcastle is the destination. The route heads out to the east – across the low lying flat lands of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire – with long straight roads ensuring a keen pace – but the smart will conserve their energy and strength for the hills further north. The sun will dip and night time arrives as we pass through remote villages and speed through the quiet English countryside, before hitting the historic city of Lincoln, over the Humber and onto York as the hills get a little sharper. As dawn arrives – the iconic Angel of the North will soon be in our sights, as we near the end of our ride. Finishing on the banks of the Tyne, under the shadow of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge – the start in London will seem a long time ago. A lot can happen in 24 hours - and you'll see a lot of Britain on your Ride 24.
If you could spare just 10p a mile, or whatever you can, it will help us deal with the pain of completing the ride.
